It Takes Village programs and services are based upon theory, assessment, and, most importantly, the input and needs of the communities we serve. The effectiveness of each program greatly depends on the level of involvement of participants, and the trust the community has with our staff and organization.  There is no charge for any of our programs or services.​

Walk-in and get the help you need. 

HIV + STI Testing

Getting tested at It Takes a Village is completely FREE in both English and Spanish.  Our Testing Counselors are experienced and adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality. They are non-judgmental and can help you develop a plan to stay safe and healthy. HIV Testing is provided Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm and Fridays from 9:30 am - 11:30 am with results in less than 10 minutes. STI Testing includes testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, with results in two days and free treatment.

PrEP

PrEP is a once a day pill taken to prevent acquiring HIV. Our program at It Takes a Village can connect you with prescriptions for PrEP at no cost. We’ll help you understand how PrEP works and how it can help you. Staff will also accompany you to your first appointment to help you become acquainted with the providers.

Brothas4Ever +

BOMB

Since 2000, Brothas4Ever has been building and nourishing community among African-American same gender loving men throughout the Denver Metro area. This ever-growing group, which has reached thousands of Black men over the years, addresses health, relationships, and what it means to be a Black man in America. Men of all ages come together for discussion groups and to support each other in staying healthy and strong.

TransAction

Since 2007, It Takes a Village has implemented the only HIV prevention program for Transgender women of color. This peer-led group meets monthly for support, to share information, and to gather socially. The program staff also communicates with Transgender women in prisons who are getting ready to be released to provide a welcoming, safe space for them to find resources and get a makeover.

It Takes a Village implements an educational, social group for Latinx gay men twice a month in the evenings, providing dinner and support. Social activities such as bowling and barbeques help to reduce isolation, particularly for men who may be immigrants. All groups are conducted in Spanish.

Phenomenal Women + VOICES

Since 2003, African-American women have come together to address issues that impact them and their ability to stay safe. This dynamic group has included over 1,000 Black women from all walks of life, discussing relationships, racism, colorism, sexuality, poverty, sexual abuse, and many other topics. VOICES is a two-hour group to help participants reduce their risk of acquiring HIV. It is woven into activities for Phenomenal Women.

Community Without Walls

This program provides transitional support for all men and women living with HIV who are incarcerated (with no more than three months till release) or recently released from incarceration. We visit inmates in Jefferson County and Arapahoe County jails and help them with housing, addictions counseling and linkage to care when they are released.

Healthy Relationships

Healthy Relationships is a series of workshops geared towards helping people living with HIV begin and maintain relationships after their diagnosis. These are fun, interactive sessions where participants meet and get to know each other, brainstorm when and how to disclose their status and feel more empowered to explore new relationships.

Crime Survivors Program

This program provides services for people who have been victims of crime. We will help you move forward and begin the healing process. Financial assistance is available. Groups for PTSD provided. All services are free.

Psychosocial Support Group

The Community Group is comprised of individuals living with HIV who provide support to each other. This group is peer-led, meets twice a month and all are welcome. Interesting, relevant topics of discussion and delicious lunches make this group very popular. Spanish-speaking people living with HIV participate weekly in this group with translation.

Mobile Unit Testing and Services

In 2021, the Colorado Rockies and Major League Baseball presented It Takes a Village with a beautiful mobile unit to provide HIV Testing, PrEP and other services throughout the Denver metro area. If you would like our services at your organization or event, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Client Services.

The Client Services team provides Medical Case Management, support, and assistance to help people living with HIV access medical care, insurance, medical treatment, financial assistance, housing assistance, mental health counseling, psychosocial support, and addiction services. Since 2003, we have provided Client Services to people living with HIV from all backgrounds. Services are also provided in Spanish. Get in touch with Veronica, Client Services Supervisor below.

If you are having difficulty accessing services or understanding your treatment/medications, we can help you. If you feel lonely and isolated or just want to meet other people living with HIV, It Takes a Village is a place for you. If you are experiencing emotional/mental health problems or addiction, we can help you get back on your feet.

Mental Health Counseling

Mental health counseling is available for people living with HIV, with appointments arranged through case managers or directly through the counselor. Counseling is available in Spanish.

Addiction Counseling

It Takes a Village has provided effective addiction counseling services since 2007. Groups for people living with HIV take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 am to noon. Tuesday’s group, Healing Ourselves, includes lunch. Friday’s group focuses on addiction and criminal thinking for people who have a history of incarceration. Addiction counseling is available through an on-call counselor 24 hours a day. Contact Corinthiah or Hassan.

Medical Case Management

Intakes within 48 hours of contact, and walk-ins are served. We assist with emergency financial assistance for people living with HIV, including phone bills, utilities, rental assistance, and emergency motel stays. We will link you to HIV care and treatment and connect you with insurance or expanded Medicaid. If you are newly diagnosed or have been out of treatment, come in for immediate help. Services are provided in Spanish.
